Short Bio


Vicki Davis is a teacher and the IT director at Westwood Schools in Camilla, Georgia. Vicki co-created five award winning international wiki-centric projects, the Flat Classroom project, the Horizon project, Digiteen and the Eracism project with teacher Julie Lindsay, currently located in Beijing. She co-founded the NetGenEd project with Julie Lindsay and award-winning author Don Tapscott and the Flat Classroom Conference with Julie Lindsay. These projects have linked more than 4000 students from both public and private schools in such countries as Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, Pakistan, Qatar and the US and harness the most powerful Web 2.0 tools available including wikis, blogs, digital storytelling, podcasts, social bookmarking, and more. Vicki has been featured in various media including Thomas Friedman's bobestteacher08.pngok, The World is Flat, Don Tapscott's Book, Grown Up Digital, Curtis Bonk's Book The World is Open, Suzie Boss and Jayne Krauss' Reinventing Project Based Learning, Lawrence Peters' Global Education, and media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, and the Boston Globe.

Vicki blogs at the Cool Cat Teacher blog which has approximately 30,000 subscribers and winner of the edublog award for best Teacher Blog in 2008, and was a finalist from 2006-2009. The Flat Classroom project won the edublog award for best wiki in 2006 and 2008, and the Horizon Project was a finalist for best wiki in education in 2007. Vicki is a Google Certified Teacher and Discovery S.T.A.R. Educator. She lives in Camilla, Georgia with her three children and husband, Kip.

Vicki has written for many leading educational magazines and websites including Edutopia, Teacher-Librarian, Cable in the Classroom, NetFamily News, TechLearning, and Leading and Learning and has keynoted and spoken at educational conferences across the country including North Carolina, Maine, California, Michigan, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Georgia and at Google Headquarters in California.

Vicki's will publish her first book in 2011 entitled ClickSmart about the holistic method of teaching software that she uses in her classroom and an upcoming book about the methods for Flattening Your Classroom with co-author Julie Lindsay. This method enables her to teach a wide variety of software programs and build technical edublogw10.giffluency and digital savvy that continues to distinguish her students in their global projects. Vicki is also a freelance writer and conference presenter.


Full Bio


- Teacher and IT Director - Westwood Schools, Camilla Georgia. Vicki teaches 9th - 12th grade students a variety of technology focused topics including keyboarding, Computer Fundamentals, Introduction to Computer Science, Accounting, Digital Filmmaking, Computer Graphic Design, and Current Events. Additionally, she teaches a mini keyboarding course to fifth grade students and works to advise on technology aided curriculum for her school. Vicki is also the Information Technology Director at the school.
Don Tapscott, author of Wikinomics was the featured keynote of the most recent Horizon project in which he said, "there is nothing more important today than transforming our model today of making the classroom more relevant." Vicki agrees and puts into practice transformational, differentiated experiences using a wide variety of technology tools.

The Flat Classroom project was featured in Thomas Friedman's version 3 of The World is Flat, and won ISTE's Online Learning Award for 2007 and the Edublog Award for best educational wiki of 2006 and 2008. The Horizon Project was an edublog Finalist for best wiki in education for 2007.

Vicki's students have interacted with many amazing technology influencers including Thomas Friedman, Don Tapscott (author of Wikinomics who keynoted this year's horizon project), a nanotechnology expert, and others around the world.
